On a Mauritian menu "Asian" usually means a kitchen that moves between Chinese, Thai and Japanese rather than committing to one. That is less of a compromise than it sounds: the island has cooked Chinese food for a century and a half, and the ingredients — lemongrass, ginger, chilli, fresh fish — are local rather than imported.
