Meat restaurants in Mauritius

Mauritius imports most of its beef and lamb, largely from South Africa and Australia, so a steak here is a good steak rather than a local one. The exception is venison. Deer were brought to the island by the Dutch in the seventeenth century, the herds are still hunted in season, and cerf appears on menus in a way it does not almost anywhere else.

If you see venison on one of the menus below, it is the thing worth ordering: usually served rare, often with a red wine or a local pepper sauce. Otherwise expect grills and steaks, frequently on the same menu as the seafood, since few kitchens here specialise in only one.
